Steel Panther, known for their over-the-top glam rock antics, have released a new mini version of their controversial “Pussy Melter” guitar pedal. The “Platinum Pocket Pussy Melter” promises the same high-octane 80s distortion in a more compact design.
Platinum Pocket Pussy Melter
Following the original’s success (and notoriety), the new pedal shrinks the form factor and streamlines the controls. Gone are the four knobs and toggle switch, replaced by a simplified three-knob layout.
However, the core purpose remains unchanged: to deliver the iconic Sunset Strip, full-stack overdrive and distortion that defined the era.
“This is pure 80s rock,” said a representative from the company. “Think big, in-your-face guitar tones. Subtlety is not on the menu.”

Limited-Edition
The first 1,000 units of this limited-edition pedal will include a hand-numbered certificate of authenticity, adding to its collectible appeal. Production is already underway at the company’s Kentucky factory, with shipping expected to begin in early June.
While the pedal’s name and aesthetic are clearly intended as a humorous nod to Steel Panther’s flamboyant style, it has also sparked controversy. Notably, online marketplace Reverb.com famously banned the original version.
“Whether you find it hilarious or problematic, there’s no denying the pedal delivers a massive glam rock tone,” noted one reviewer. “Beneath the clownish exterior lies a legitimate 80s guitar drive circuit.”
However, reviews have indicated that the simplified controls might limit the pedal’s versatility. “While it delivers those huge, Marshall-esque tones, the range of usable settings is quite narrow,” one reviewer stated. “Move the tone or gain too far, and it quickly becomes fizzy or hollow.”
Butthole Burner
Comparisons have been drawn to the earlier “Butthole Burner” pedal (a great pedal and I won this one myself), which utilized the same circuit but featured more extensive controls. “The original’s high and low tone controls, along with the voice toggle, allowed for a wider range of sounds,” the reviewer explained. “The ‘balmy’ mode, in particular, offered softer overdrive tones that are missing in the mini version.”
Who is it for?
Despite the criticisms, the “Platinum Pocket Pussy Melter” is expected to resonate with fans of Steel Panther and 80s rock enthusiasts seeking that specific, over-the-top distortion.
Its compact size and focused design make it a potent tool for achieving those classic glam metal tones, even if its range is limited. Making it perfect for compact pedalboard setups and classic ’80s rock tones.

Pre-order
The pedal retails for $139.99 and is currently available for pre-order direct from the band’s site.
Verdict
However, the Allpedal Steel Panther 1987 would be a better option if you need more control and a built-in delay. If you can get past the sense of humour and the naming of the Steel Panther stompboxes, you’ll find they are top-notch and worth owning. As I stated above, I own the Butthole Burner pedal and it is insanely good, check out Satchel’s demo of it below.
