Z-VEX Effects Launches DB-1: The World’s First Invisible Analog Guitar Meter
Discover the new ZVEX DB-1 analog guitar meter. Featuring a 10M ohm ultra-high impedance circuit, it delivers transparent visual monitoring with zero tone suck.

Renowned boutique effects manufacturer ZVEX Effects has officially unveiled its newest innovation: the ZVEX DB-1. Retailing at $229.00, the DB-1 is the market’s first ultra-high impedance analog meter designed specifically for electric guitars, promising musicians a visually dynamic experience without sacrificing a single ounce of tone.

For decades, guitarists have faced a common dilemma when adding utilities to their pedalboards: tone suck. Traditional analog meters draw too much power from the guitar’s delicate signal, degrading high-end clarity and dynamics. ZVEX has completely re-engineered this concept from the ground up, ensuring the DB-1 remains entirely “invisible” anywhere in the signal chain.

Scientific Precision Meets Rock ‘n’ Roll

The secret behind the DB-1’s transparent performance lies in its groundbreaking engineering. The meter features a sensing circuit with a feather-light touch on the instrument’s signal, utilizing a massive 10-million-ohm resistor in series with an ultra-sensitive Field Effect Transistor (FET).

“The input impedance of this instrument is higher than most scientific apparatus available to the public,” says Zachary Vex, founder of ZVEX Effects. “I’m personally unsure if anyone has ever previously offered an analog meter for use with guitar, but I’m certain nobody has ever offered one so sensitive and invisible.”

Bidirectional

In an ingenious design twist, the DB-1 features fully bidirectional, identical routing. Musicians can swap the input and output jacks completely, allowing the pedal to function identically in both directions to accommodate any pedalboard layout.

A Nod to Spinal Tap: It Goes to 11

While the internal circuitry is pure science, the exterior interface is pure rock history. The ZVEX DB-1 features a single “Range” knob, allowing players to calibrate the needle’s sweep to match the specific output of their guitar pickups or prior pedals.

The custom analog faceplate features labels that indicate an increasing level of “happiness” as your signal rises, culminating at a maximum level of 11—a legendary nod to the cult-classic film This Is Spinal Tap.

“We all know from Spinal Tap that 11 is the highest any guitar can go safely,” Vex noted, adding a playful caveat for tone chasers: “Your meter may swing higher than 11. Allow this at your own risk.”

Price and Availability

The ZVEX DB-1 is available now for $229.00. Given its high-fidelity circuitry, ZVEX issues a strict warning to users: the unit must be powered by a 9-volt DC power supply ONLY.

Guitarists looking to inject vintage analog aesthetic into their rig without compromising their tone can purchase the unit directly from the official ZVEX Effects Website or through authorized ZVEX dealers worldwide.
