Nembrini Audio’s Tone Craft is a powerful modular standalone application and plugin designed to act as a central hub for crafting, routing, and performing professional guitar and bass tones. Rather than a traditional all-in-one amp-sim suite, Tone Craft is a modular host environment. It allows you to load and integrate all of your existing Nembrini Audio plugins, built-in free modules, and custom profiles into a single, unified workspace.

Whether you are looking to build a straightforward, clean rig or a massive, multi-layered metal tone, Tone Craft gives you the canvas to route it exactly how you want.

From meticulous valve amp recreations to convincing, precise stompbox models, their software plugins frequently earn high ratings across our reviews for their authentic feel and tones.

Recently, the team at Nembrini provided us with a free copy of their new Tone Craft Modular Studio so we could put it through its paces. So we fired up our Mac and installed the new host software onto our system.

For this review, we used Logic for our DAW, and the system was an M1 Apple Silicon with 16GB RAM.

As always, it is important to state that while the software was provided at no cost, this review remains completely independent. Simple Workflow

When it comes to ease of use, Tone Craft excels by translating the physical logic of a hardware pedalboard or studio outboard rack into software seamlessly. 

Rather than juggling multiple floating windows across your DAW screen, the unified interface lets you organize your entire signal chain in a single, highly visual workspace. 

Routing

Routing is remarkably intuitive; you simply drop modules into place to build everything from a straightforward mono overdrive circuit to complex parallel chains using the built-in crossovers, splitters, and mixers. This level of flexibility encourages you to experiment and customize your tone without the usual physical limitations of patch cables and hardware, making it just as quick to dial in a simple practice rig as it is to architect a massive, dual-amp setup for a final mix.

The environment is simple to use, and they have made it easy to build your own virtual rigs within the plugin. Perfect for anyone who likes to sculpt their own guitar tones and tweak them to taste. If you are the type of person who enjoys having lots of control over virtual gear and want to customize your own virtual guitar rigs, this is certainly software that should be on your radar.

They also include some basic patches to get you up and running, which is useful, and you can then edit these or just start from a blank patch to create your own. This type of host environment will appeal to anyone who requires more complex rigs and needs the ability to switch between patches easily. 

It is far more than I require; however, I can see it as a very useful tool for power users and those who need complex custom virtual rigs. 

Scenes

The ability to create up to 8 scenes per preset will be very useful for many players. These can then be assigned via MIDI for instant switching. Perfect for anyone who wants to use this for more complex studio sessions or to build a rig for performance.

NAM Loader

The addition of the Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) Loader is perhaps one of Tone Craft’s most compelling features, particularly because it is included even within the free version of the software. 

This module allows you to import any open-source .nam profile (specifically those utilizing architecture A2) directly into your digital workspace. NAM is currently all the rage, so it is very convenient to simply integrate these models into a custom rig.

In practice, this means you can seamlessly integrate community-captured profiles of rare valve amplifiers, vintage fuzz boxes, or even coveted rare guitar amps, alongside Nembrini's proprietary effects and built-in modules. 

By bringing NAM directly into the Tone Craft ecosystem, it eliminates the need to run separate plugin instances in your digital audio workstation, allowing you to route a captured boutique overdrive pedal straight into a Nembrini amp model and out through a custom IR loader—all within a single, unified signal chain.

This makes for a highly customizable signal chain, where users can mix and match virtual guitar gear, drawing from the wealth of online NAM libraries. Great if you want to add a boutique amp or rare effect pedal to your existing Nembrini plugins. It also allows users to keep a custom rig in a single environment, without the need to flit between multiple plugins within a DAW's effects section, aux, etc.

Tone Craft offers a highly flexible, drag-and-drop workflow for your digital rig.

• Complete Routing Freedom: The software uses a top-down visual routing grid. You can build complex signal paths including parallel routing, multi-band processing, and dual-amp setups. (For example, you can split your signal to run a clean, compressed bass tone in parallel with a heavily distorted amp).
• NAM Loader Integration: Tone Craft includes a built-in Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) loader. This is a massive addition, allowing you to load open-source, highly accurate neural network profiles of real amplifiers directly into your Tone Craft signal chain alongside Nembrini's proprietary effects.
• Live Performance Ready ("Scenes"): The software features a "Scenes" function. This allows you to create multiple sub-presets (e.g., Intro, Verse, Chorus, Solo) within a single session and switch between them instantly.
• MIDI & Automation: Tone Craft supports MIDI Program Change (perfect for switching Scenes via a foot controller) and offers centralized parameter automation for seamless DAW integration.
• Built-in Utilities: The software includes essential free modules (such as IR loaders, splitters, mixers, and basic effects) to help you connect and shape your signal chain. Providing users with all the basic tools to create a custom setup.

Free vs. Paid Features

Tone Craft is available in two variations: a free version with linear hosting, and a paid version that unlocks advanced routing and live performance tools.

(Note: Neither version includes paid Nembrini amps/effects; those must be purchased separately or accessed via subscription).

Pricing Options

Nembrini Audio offers a few different ways to integrate Tone Craft into your setup depending on your budget and what you already own:

1. Tone Craft Free Version ($0): A great starting point. If you just want a streamlined host to run your existing Nembrini plugins or use the built-in NAM loader in a simple linear chain, the free version is highly capable.
2. Tone Craft License ($49.99 Regular Price): This is a one-time purchase for the fully unlocked Tone Craft host. You will want this if you plan on building advanced rigs (dual amps, parallel chains) or use the software for live performances (utilizing MIDI switching and Scenes).
3. Full Access Subscription ($12.99 / month): If you are new to Nembrini Audio and don't own their standalone amps and pedals yet, this is the best route. For $12.99 a month, you get the fully unlocked Tone Craft host plus complete access to the entire Nembrini Audio collection of premium guitar amps, bass amps, and effects to populate it.

Conclusion

Nembrini Audio’s Tone Craft is a must-have utility for existing Nembrini users, effectively turning a collection of individual plugins into a cohesive, studio-grade rig builder. 

I was already a huge fan of Nembrini Audio’s plugins, as they make some of the finest virtual recreations of classic guitar gear on the market. So now, being able to load them into this host and build more expansive virtual rigs really broadens the scope of what is possible in your DAW.

Having a standalone program included in the package is also useful, as it allows you to run the whole system outside a DAW environment. Perfect for players who may want to use this live or just to create new patches, etc. 

They already offer many free plugins, so you can access them in the software and try them out without spending any money. 

We liked that it can handle stereo inputs, and having MIDI control (paid version) is also very useful. 

The inclusion of a NAM loader makes it incredibly valuable even for those using free neural profiles. While the free version is a nice touch, the $49.99 paid license is well worth the price of admission for tone-tweakers who want to utilize parallel processing, split crossovers, and live MIDI switching.

The whole concept is a good one (it reminds me a little of Amp Room), and the implementation is neat and tidy. The software was released earlier this year, and user feedback has been positive all round. Nembrini Audio also actively incorporates user feedback, so I would expect it to continue to grow and add more features and refinements over time.

A solid tool, and we managed to run it comfortably on an M1 Silicon with 16GB RAM with no issues.

I enjoyed the ability to easily blend amps, routing, and effects, as the host then lets you use it as a palette to mix your own tones.

The price points of Nembrini Audio's software are also a huge attraction, as they are very affordable. However, they sound great and punch well above the asking price. This new way of integrating them into a unified virtual rig will please many of their existing users and possibly attract new users looking to integrate NAM into their virtual guitar rigs.

I would certainly recommend downloading the free version and trying it out yourself, as it has a great feature. Then, if you need more complex multi-amp setups, the paid version offers more options you can upgrade to.
