Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Guitars is shaking up the mid-range electric guitar market again. The legendary brand has officially launched the PRS SE DGT Standard, a streamlined, all-mahogany version of the acclaimed David Grissom signature guitar. This new model, which joins the popular SE series, immediately becomes Grissom’s most affordable signature guitar to date.
The SE line has become a hotbed for high-quality, budget-friendly instruments—gems like the SE NF 53 have already proven that sub-$1,000 guitars can be truly exceptional in 2025. The SE DGT Standard is poised to continue this precedent, offering serious players versatile tone and premium features at a competitive price.
David Grissom Signature Tone, New Low Price
A long-time collaborator with PRS, country, blues, and rock guitar virtuoso David Grissom was instrumental in shaping some of the brand’s earliest designs, including the groundbreaking McCarty model. His original, highly sought-after DGT guitar was later adapted into the successful SE DGT.
Now, the SE DGT Standard strips down the design for a more focused, resonant platform.

Mahogany
Presented with an all-mahogany body, the new Standard promises to deliver “organic tone, rich resonance, and bold midrange presence.”

Key Features for Versatile Guitarists:
- Pickups: PRS DGT “S” humbuckers designed to deliver vintage character and flexible tones.
- Controls: The versatile tone controls remain, featuring independent Volume controls for each pickup, a Master Tone control with push/pull coil tapping for single-coil sounds, and a three-way toggle switch.
- Hardware: A PRS tremolo bridge with whammy bar and lightweight tuners ensure modern reliability and tuning stability.
- Neck & Fretboard: Built to a 25″ scale length, the multi-ply neck features a smooth 22-fret rosewood fretboard with a 10″ radius. Instead of the traditional PRS birds, the fretboard is adorned with classic Moon inlays.

Understated Elegance and Vintage Character
The aesthetic of the SE DGT Standard opts for “understated elegance,” combining a vintage feel with robust modern construction.
“David has been a friend and collaborator of PRS since the early days,” commented Product Specialist Bryan Ewald. “David’s signature DGT guitars have been a favorite amongst many PRS players over the years. It was big news when it was finally available in the SE series, and it’s great to add the all-mahogany Standard to the lineup. This guitar is a vintage-inspired, trem-equipped guitar with a wonderfully bold and punchy mid-range.”
