A new line of Trump Guitars emblazoned with American symbols caused a stir last year, but are they worth the price tag? One intrepid YouTube reviewer decided to find out.
Looks Can Be Deceiving
The guitars, from a fledgling brand, came under fire for claiming an endorsement from Donald Trump. Despite the controversy, the line is back on sale with a disclaimer clarifying that there is no official affiliation.
One particular model, the “American Eagle,” caught the reviewer’s eye for resembling a popular guitar design. But how does it actually play?
The reviewer, HW from ToneJunkie TV, admits to being pleasantly surprised by the guitar’s initial appearance. “My first impression of this guitar is a lot better than I expected,” he confesses.
He notes the unique design elements, including the body’s American flag, eagle motif, and “Make America Great Again” inlays on the fretboard. However, HW acknowledges the unusual nature of politically themed instruments. “I’ve never heard of a Reagan guitar or a Clinton guitar,” he observes.
Sound and Playability
HW put the guitar through its paces and tested it through a high-end amplifier setup. While impressed by the neck and middle pickups, he found the bridge pickup lacking power.
Despite the price tag, the construction seemed decent. HW found no flaws in the finish, appreciated the chrome hardware, and noted the guitar was set up well. He also commented on the instrument’s ability to stay in tune.
However, the strings left something to be desired. HW described them as feeling “made in hell,” a common issue with some imported guitars.
Factory Fresh (or Not?)
Further inspection revealed clues about the guitar’s origin. HW believes the instrument was likely manufactured overseas in factories commonly used by other budget brands. This would explain the discrepancy between the price and perceived value.
The Verdict: Collector’s Item or Budget Option?
Overall, HW found the guitar to be playable and enjoyable. However, the high price tag was a major sticking point. In his opinion, the instrument offered performance comparable to guitars, which cost significantly less.
“I would put this guitar in line with an import…you would buy for 500 bucks,” he concludes. “That’s what I think this guitar should go for. It’s like a collector piece at this point.”
